Independence Support Worker jobs in Swanley, Dartford and Bexley.
Practical, sociable work with older people in their own homes. Paid travel time, pay above the National Living Wage, and no personal care.
The role
Help people stay independent at home.
You visit the same people each week and help with the things that keep life going: a proper chat, the shopping, a hot meal, getting to an appointment, a reminder about tablets.
Most of our visits are an hour or longer, so there is time to do the job properly. You are not rushing from one fifteen-minute call to the next.
Part-time and flexible, built around the hours you can offer. Evenings and weekends are available if they suit you better.
What the work involves
- Companionship, conversation and trips out
- Shopping, errands and collecting prescriptions
- Preparing meals, light housekeeping and laundry
- Going with people to GP and hospital appointments
- Medication reminders, properly recorded
- Planned breaks for family carers
Why this job is different
The things care workers tell us they want.
- Your travel time is paid. The time between visits is working time and we pay it. Mileage is paid too.
- No personal care. This service does not provide washing, bathing or dressing, so the work is practical and sociable.
- Pay above the National Living Wage. £14.00 to £14.50 an hour, plus paid travel time.
- The same people each week. You get to know them, and they get to know you.
- Proper visit lengths. Usually an hour or more, planned in two local clusters to keep driving down.
- Led by a former registered manager with fifteen years in adult social care, who answers the phone himself.
Who we are looking for
Reliable, warm and genuinely interested in people.
You do not need care experience. If you have looked after a relative, worked in hospitality or retail, or simply get on well with older people, we will train you.
- Kind, patient and dependable, because people are waiting for you
- A driver with your own car is a real advantage in the villages
- The right to work in the UK
- Willing to have an enhanced DBS check, which we arrange and pay for
- Two references, one from your most recent employer
What we provide
- Paid induction and training
- Enhanced DBS check arranged and paid for
- Paid travel time and mileage
- A written rota, agreed with you
- Holiday pay and a workplace pension
- Supervision and someone to ring any time you are unsure
Where you would work
Visits are planned close to home.
We work in two clusters so you are not crossing the county between calls: Swanley, Hextable and Dartford with the Darent Valley villages; and Bexley, Sidcup, Bexleyheath and Welling. Tell us which suits you.
